Azerbaijan’s foreign minister and the EU special representative for the South Caucasus discussed energy security and the peace agenda between Baku and Brussels.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the European Union’s (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Operative Information Center-OMM.

The meeting addressed key issues on the agenda of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation, prospects for developing bilateral partnership, the situation in the region, and efforts to strengthen regional peace and stability.

The sides emphasized the importance of high-level mutual visits and contacts in advancing the Azerbaijan-EU agenda and expanding cooperation across various fields.

They discussed further development of the institutional and legal framework of Azerbaijan-EU relations, the completion of negotiations on the bilateral Partnership Priorities document, and prospects for negotiations on a new bilateral agreement.

Bayramov briefed the EU official on efforts to ensure peace and security in the South Caucasus, as well as steps toward normalization and confidence-building between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The importance of the discussions held during the meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Bishkek in August of this year was highlighted in terms of advancing the regional peace agenda.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on energy and communications projects in the region, along with other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
