As a reliable natural gas supplier to 16 countries, Azerbaijan ranks among the world’s leading suppliers of pipeline gas and plays a strategic role in strengthening energy security and diversifying supply routes in Europe and beyond.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks in his address to the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan’s contribution to global energy security is increasingly complemented by its growing role in the clean energy transition: “We are investing in renewable energy, commissioning major solar and wind projects, expanding our hydropower potential and developing new clean energy initiatives together with leading international partners. Agreements already signed envisage the development of approximately 6 GW of additional solar and wind power capacity by 2030.”
By 2030, around 40% of Azerbaijan’s electricity is expected to come from renewable energy sources.
The expansion of renewable energy generation will create new opportunities for Azerbaijan to export green electricity to European markets.
Azerbaijan has increasingly positioned itself as an energy bridge between producers and consumer markets, with natural gas infrastructure supporting the diversification of supplies to Europe. The country’s renewable energy plans are intended to complement this role and broaden cooperation in the clean energy sector.
