İran niyə məhz Naxçıvanı vurdu? - Ekspertdən AÇIQLAMA

Drone strikes were launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the afternoon of March 5. The strikes primarily targeted the Nakhchivan airport.

Speaking to the Operative Information Center-OMM, military expert Adalat Verdiyev characterized these attacks as a treacherous and hypocritical move. "Azerbaijan has never allowed its territory to be used against Iran and has always remained interested in resolving conflicts through diplomacy. However, the regime is attempting to expand the scale of conflict as much as possible. The strike on Nakhchivan airport aims to sever the connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. Previously, such steps were observed from Armenia, and now Iran is implementing them. This is a completely treacherous and undignified act," Verdiyev stated.

The expert emphasized that Baku expects an immediate and logical explanation from Tehran regarding the incident. "Otherwise, the matter will be extensively discussed with Turkey, whose territory was also struck yesterday, as well as our other allies, and the most appropriate retaliatory measures will be taken. Iran will not emerge from these treacherous actions without losses," he added.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is an Azerbaijani exclave bordering Turkey, Armenia, and Iran. Given its geographic isolation from the main part of Azerbaijan, the Nakhchivan airport serves as a critical strategic hub for both civilian transport and regional security. This escalation follows a period of heightened regional tensions and underscores the complex security dynamics in the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijan maintains a strategic alliance with Turkey under the Shusha Declaration.
