Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence and committing arson during the January protests. Amirali Mirjafari was put to death on Tuesday morning after being found guilty of leading a network linked to foreign intelligence services and setting fire to the Kolhak mosque in Tehran.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters and the Iranian Mizan news agency, Mirjafari was charged with organizing activities aimed at undermining state security. The Iranian judiciary stated that the defendant had been involved in coordinating a spy network that operated under the direction of Israeli intelligence agencies during a period of civil unrest.

The execution comes amid heightened regional tensions and a series of crackdowns by Iranian authorities following widespread demonstrations. Iran frequently accuses individuals of collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel's Mossad, and has previously carried out similar sentences for charges related to espionage and national security threats. The January protests, which saw various acts of civil unrest, have led to numerous arrests and legal proceedings across the country as Tehran maintains a strict stance on internal security.
