Iran has executed a man convicted of espionage and working on behalf of Israel's intelligence services, local media reported on Tuesday.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), that the execution was carried out following judicial approvals.
The executed individual, identified as Gholamreza Khani Shekarab, had his death sentence officially upheld by the Supreme Court of Iran prior to the implementation of the verdict. Iranian authorities stated that he was tried and convicted on charges of gathering sensitive information and spying for Israel.
Iran and Israel have been engaged in a long-running shadow war, characterized by covert operations, cyberattacks, and mutual accusations of espionage. Tehran frequently announces the arrest and execution of individuals it claims are working for foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel's Mossad and the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
