Hollande may run again for French presidency in 2027

Former French President and Socialist Party figure François Hollande has said he could run in the 2027 presidential election.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that Hollande made the remarks in connection with the election.

He said he would consider doing so only if he believed he had a realistic chance of winning the election.

“Running for president, especially for a former head of state like me, is not a decision to be taken lightly,” Hollande said.

The 72-year-old politician added that he would consider entering the race only under exceptional circumstances, if he saw a realistic opportunity to reach the second round and ultimately win.

France’s next presidential election is scheduled to take place in spring 2027. The French president is elected by direct universal suffrage in a two-round system if no candidate secures a majority in the first round.

Hollande served as France’s president from 2012 to 2017.
