The European Union will continue supporting Azerbaijan in clearing mines from liberated territories and in reconstruction efforts.
Magdalena Grono, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, told the Operative Information Center-OMM this during a visit to the Garabagh region as part of a delegation of foreign diplomatic missions.
She said the EU remains a reliable partner for Azerbaijan and supports various programs, including the peace agenda and regional cooperation.
“By supporting peace, we are also seeking to help address the consequences of past conflicts. This includes supporting communities affected by conflict, reconstruction and, in particular, mine clearance,” she said.
The EU representative emphasized that the union welcomed the positive momentum in regional development and the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
She noted that important practical steps were being taken in areas such as border delimitation, transport links, trade and people-to-people contacts.
“We hope that all of this will create the necessary conditions and ultimately lead to the final signing of a peace agreement,” the EU representative added.
Mine clearance remains a major priority in Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts, as unexploded ordnance continues to pose risks to civilians, infrastructure projects and the return of residents to liberated areas.
