China launches international alliance to combat cyber fraud

An international alliance to combat cross-border telecommunications fraud and cyber fraud was established in China on Monday.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported, citing foreign media outlets.

The alliance’s founding conference was held in Lianyungang, a city in eastern China.

Representatives of 46 founding countries, 34 observer countries and four international organizations, including the United Nations and Interpol, attended the event.

Established at the initiative of the Chinese government, the alliance is an intergovernmental organization aimed at strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies in different countries. Its main objective is to promote international cooperation in combating cross-border telecommunications and cyber fraud, as well as related crimes.

In addition to China, representatives of the alliance’s founding members Vietnam, Laos, Kenya, Cambodia, Pakistan and Russia also addressed the conference.

At the conclusion of the conference, participants adopted a joint statement on establishing the alliance, noting that telecommunications and cyber fraud have become global challenges requiring stronger international cooperation.

International cooperation against cyber fraud typically focuses on exchanging information, coordinating investigations and improving mechanisms for pursuing criminal networks operating across national borders. The platform is expected to provide an additional framework for such cooperation among participating countries and international organizations.
