The State Tourism Agency and the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB), alongside six local tourism industry representatives, including Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), are holding a series of promotional events in the Chinese cities of Xi'an, Shanghai, and Beijing.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported this citing the Agency.

According to the report, the ATB is represented with a national stand at the "ITB China 2026" international tourism exhibition in Shanghai from May 26-28, alongside AZAL and 10 local tourism industry representatives.

These events and the "ITB China 2026" exhibition serve as a vital platform for B2B meetings, networking, and exploring new cooperation opportunities. They also highlight Azerbaijan's growing business tourism (MICE) potential to international professionals.

During the "ITB China 2026" exhibition, "Trip.com," one of the leading online travel platforms, awarded Azerbaijan the "Must-Visit Destination 2026" title. The award was presented to the Chairman of the Agency, Fuad Naghiyev.

Within the framework of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the ATB and "Tongcheng Travel," a major Chinese online travel and booking platform. The agreement aims to strengthen the promotion of Azerbaijan in the Chinese market and encourage the country as a year-round attractive destination for Chinese tourists.

The reciprocal visa-free regime for citizens of China and Azerbaijan, combined with direct flights operated by AZAL and China Southern Airlines from Baku to Beijing and Urumqi, facilitates the development of tourism ties between the two nations.

From January to April of this year, the number of visitors from China to Azerbaijan increased by 9.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 14,303 people.
