President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen on October 26.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the head of state recalled with satisfaction his meeting last year in Copenhagen with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, noting that they exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.
President Ilham Aliyev said he was confident the Dutch foreign minister’s visit to Azerbaijan would be successful and described it as a good opportunity to discuss cooperation in politics, diplomacy, the economy and investment.
Thanking the president for receiving him, Berendsen also recalled the meeting between the Azerbaijani president and the Dutch prime minister. He said he had received very positive messages from the prime minister about developing cooperation and that there were good opportunities to expand ties.
The guest thanked Azerbaijan for helping evacuate Dutch citizens, including the Netherlands’ ambassador to Tehran and embassy staff, through Azerbaijan during events in the Middle East.
The Dutch foreign minister said the Netherlands highly valued President Ilham Aliyev’s personal role in establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus, describing this as highly important for Europe as well as the region.
The sides exchanged views on prospects for bilateral relations.
They noted the successful operations of Dutch companies in various sectors in Azerbaijan and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in transport, logistics, the Baku International Sea Trade Port, agriculture and other areas.
The meeting also addressed further development of economic and trade ties between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands, including the organization of reciprocal visits and visits by business delegations.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to agricultural development and is implementing large-scale state programs in the sector. Given the Netherlands’ advanced agricultural expertise, the sides noted favorable opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in this area.
