The first day of the 7th World Forum for Intercultural Dialogue in Baku concluded on October 27. President Ilham Aliyev spoke about Azerbaijan’s role in promoting peace and multiculturalism, while international participants discussed the effects of artificial intelligence and cultural cooperation, AnewZ reported.

More than 2,000 registered participants attended the forum, held under the theme “Dialogue for a common future,” including more than 500 international guests from over 100 countries.

Aliyev highlights peace process with Armenia

Speaking at the opening of the forum, Aliyev described Azerbaijan as a historic bridge between Europe and Asia and drew attention to the country’s traditions of religious tolerance and multiculturalism.

The President also spoke about progress toward peace with Armenia. He recalled the agreement initially initialled in Washington in August 2025 in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s experience in ending a decades-long confrontation could serve as an example for other countries seeking to resolve protracted conflicts.

The President also criticized what he described as double standards in international politics and called for stronger mechanisms to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Forum discusses artificial intelligence and digital inclusion

Artificial intelligence and digital inclusion were among the main topics of discussion. A flagship session organized in partnership with UNESCO and Azerbaijani ministries examined the digital skills needed in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

Participants considered challenges including misinformation, online hate speech, algorithmic bias and polarization. They stressed the importance of ensuring that digital transformation is inclusive and people-centred.

Rashad Hasanov, Azerbaijan’s deputy minister of digital development and transport, spoke about efforts in the country to improve digital literacy, develop artificial intelligence tools in Azerbaijani and strengthen online protections for minors.

Beyond technology, sessions explored how entrepreneurship, creative industries and tourism can bring societies closer together outside traditional diplomatic channels.

Participants examined the role of business and innovation in building trust. Discussions on restoring cultural heritage and youth leadership highlighted their contributions to resilience and lasting peace.

Closing plenary sessions addressed inter-civilizational diplomacy and the ability of cultural, religious, scientific and educational institutions to identify emerging tensions and prevent conflict.

The first day of the forum concluded with calls to turn dialogue into practical action and strengthen cooperation in technology, business, culture and diplomacy. The forum will continue in Baku, where international delegates will discuss ways to build trust, deepen cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding.
