The trial of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Chairman Ali Karimli and his deputy, Mammad Ibrahim, is set to begin.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports, citing Qafqazinfo, that materials collected by the State Security Service (SSS) have been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for consideration.
The date of the first hearing has not yet been set.
Karimli and Ibrahim have been formally charged under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code, which covers actions aimed at seizing power by force. The article provides for a prison term of up to 20 years or, depending on the circumstances of the case, life imprisonment.
Karimli and Ibrahim were arrested last year as part of the continuation of the criminal case against former head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev. The APFP chairman has been named as a witness in the Mehdiyev case, which is currently before the court.
