Zelensky sets condition for halting strikes on Russian energy sites

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has outlined Kyiv’s condition for halting strikes on Russian energy facilities.

Zelensky wrote on the social media platform “X” that Russia must stop targeting Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports. If that happens, Ukraine could also take reciprocal de-escalation steps, he said.

Proposal to halt strikes

“Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports must no longer be targets for Russia. This will lead to appropriate de-escalation steps on our part as well,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader said they were ready to discuss the issue with the United States and other partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.

Zelensky stressed the importance of ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that since the first year of the full-scale invasion, the war had caused serious consequences, including loss of life, the destruction of cities and villages, and damage to food security and the energy sector.
