Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling world champion Sanan Suleymanov has married. Footage from the athlete’s wedding ceremony has been shared on social media. His fellow athletes also attended the ceremony.
At the celebration, wrestlers danced to “Jangi,” a traditional Azerbaijani dance. During the dance, they lifted Suleymanov and lowered him back to the floor, making movements reminiscent of wrestling techniques.
Suleymanov won gold at the world championships held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, on October 25. Competing in the 77-kilogram category, he defeated Moldova’s Alexandrin Gutu 8-3 in the final to become world champion for the first time in his career. He had previously won two silver medals at world championships.
