Voting opened on Saturday in New Zealand’s general election, with more than 3.7 million voters heading to the polls to elect a new government, Anadolu Agency reported.
Polling stations opened at 9 am (2000 GMT Friday) and are due to close at 7 pm (0600 GMT). A preliminary count will begin after voting ends, while final results are expected by Nov. 27.
The contest includes the ruling National Party and the centre-left opposition Labour Party, as well as the Green Party, ACT New Zealand and New Zealand First.
Smaller parties taking part include Te Pati Maori and the Opportunity Party. The Free Palestine Party is another newcomer to the race.
Its leader, Paul Hopkinson, told Anadolu earlier this year that the party was working to bring the Palestinian issue to the forefront of the election campaign.
