Vafa Musayeva, the first Azerbaijani woman to summit Everest, is taking part in the third International Khankendi Ultramarathon. The 192-kilometer race started in Gabala and will continue to Khankendi.
Musayeva said this was her first ultramarathon and that she felt nervous before the race. She said 192 kilometers was no short distance and that the event would be a valuable experience for her.
The mountaineer also described passing through different areas along the route as a separate adventure. She wished the ultramarathon participants success.
Ultramarathons are races covering distances longer than the standard marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers. The Khankendi event’s 192-kilometer route connects Gabala with Khankendi, taking participants across varied terrain.
