A criminal case has been opened over the disappearance of an Azerbaijani serviceman in the Lachin direction.

The Prosecutor General’s Office told “Operative Information Center-OMM” about the case.

Some social media accounts reported that Nasimi Rasim oghlu Musayev, a serviceman undergoing compulsory military service at a unit deployed in the direction of Azerbaijan’s Lachin district, had gone missing.

We report that on Sept. 26, 2026, a search for Nasimi Musayev began after he failed to report to his place of service and his whereabouts could not be established. The relevant forces of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted the necessary search operations.

Separately, the Military Prosecutor’s Office conducted an inquiry to establish the circumstances of the incident. The inquiry found reasonable grounds to suspect that Nasimi Musayev had left his military unit without authorization.

Based on materials gathered during the inquiry, the Investigative Department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan opened a criminal case under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. Necessary investigative and other procedural actions are continuing.

The measures taken established that Nasimi Musayev was in the territory of the Republic of Armenia and had been detained by the relevant authorities of that country.

Relevant Azerbaijani state agencies are continuing necessary contacts with their counterparts to clarify Nasimi Musayev’s presence and detention in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, as well as other circumstances of the incident.

Further information on the investigation and its results will be provided to the public in accordance with legal requirements.
