Rashid Mammadaliyev, who won bronze in the 73kg category at the world championships in Baku, said he hopes to turn that result into a gold medal at future competitions.
The judoka said the team held training camps in Azerbaijan and abroad while preparing for the championships. He said management, coaches, doctors and teammates had all fulfilled their responsibilities conscientiously. Mammadaliyev described the gold medal in the 60kg category and bronze in the 73kg category as the result of their collective effort.
The athlete said his confidence grew after he won his first medal in 2019. He cited his ability to compete in the “Golden Score” period as one of his strengths and said he had been slow to tire since childhood.
One of Mammadaliyev’s main goals is to prepare better for the Olympic Games. He stressed that continued improvement is essential to winning gold. The judoka also thanked everyone who supported him in both victory and defeat.
Rashid Mammadaliyev said he hopes his son will also become a judoka. He wants to coach him himself and see him become a European, world and Olympic champion.
