US officials believe the war with Iran could continue until January 2029.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing The Wall Street Journal, that the issue was raised during discussions held in the Oval Office and the White House Situation Room. During the meetings, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio presented relevant assessments to US President Donald Trump.
According to US officials, the administration in Tehran may continue to resist pressure from Washington despite the naval blockade and military operations.
The assessment has intensified discussions after Donald Trump said the war would end shortly after the midterm elections in November and that Iran would be unable to hold out for much longer.
Mutual retaliatory strikes between the parties are also continuing. Several US military aircraft were damaged in overnight strikes on the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan.
An A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft, known as the “Warthog,” was seriously damaged in the attack, with one of its wings torn off. About eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage.
US forces launched more than 30 Patriot missiles during the attack to protect the base and personnel.
The exchange of retaliatory strikes reportedly followed a US operation targeting five tankers allegedly linked to Iran.
