British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has strongly condemned the warning shots fired by a Russian military vessel toward a civilian yacht flying the British flag in the English Channel.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Prime Minister addressed the incident while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

“This should not have happened. It was an irresponsible act, and the couple on the yacht must have been terrified,” Starmer stated.

For its part, the UK Ministry of Defense stated that the shots fired were not directed at the yacht itself but were intended to prevent a potential collision.

The Ministry noted that the incident is currently under investigation and is being treated as an isolated event.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on June 16 at 12:45, the crew of the Admiral Grigorovich frigate fired warning shots at the British civilian yacht Bright Future in the English Channel. The Russian side claimed that the yacht failed to respond to signal flares and approached the warship at a dangerously close distance.

The English Channel is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, serving as a critical maritime artery connecting the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Incidents involving military vessels and civilian craft in these waters often draw significant international attention due to the high volume of commercial traffic and the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
