Turkish ambassador visits Martyrs’ Alley and Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery

Turkey’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün visited Martyrs’ Alley and the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery to mark the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku by the Caucasian Islamic Army.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün visited Martyrs’ Alley and the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery to mark the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from enemy occupation by the Caucasian Islamic Army under the command of Nuri Pasha.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan made the announcement on its “X” account.

Embassy staff, the military attaché’s office, advisers, and representatives of relevant institutions and organizations took part in the visit, the embassy said.

As part of the ceremony, Birol Akgün laid a wreath at the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery, placed carnations on the graves of the martyrs and wrote his remarks in the memorial book.

The Caucasian Islamic Army entered Baku in September 1918 and helped end the occupation of the city during the final stage of World War I. The Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery in Baku commemorates Ottoman soldiers who died during the operation.
