U.S. President Donald Trump made remarks on Iran, the Russia-Ukraine war and a possible ceasefire during a news conference at the White House.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that, answering questions about Iran, Trump said U.S. forces had been in the region for seven months, had lost 18 people and had full control of the area.
Recalling that thousands of U.S. troops had been killed in the Vietnam War, he claimed his administration had secured control of the Strait of Hormuz with only 18 casualties. Trump said there had been low-intensity clashes with Iran’s leadership, adding that Iran occasionally launched missiles or sent drones, but they were intercepted and neutralized.
Asked whether the United States would go further against Iran, the White House chief said he did not want to destroy the rest of the country, but might be forced to do so. Trump said Iran had caused the deaths of many Americans over the years and declared that Iran had started the conflict in 1979.
Turning to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump said a “major deal that would also involve all of Europe” would be reached between the parties soon. He added that they were very close to resolving the war and that everyone would be very pleased with the agreement being prepared.
