A State Tax Service official under the Ministry of Economy has been arrested.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy issued a joint statement.
The statement said a criminal case had been opened under relevant articles of the Criminal Code following operational-search measures by the Anti-Corruption General Directorate. The measures were launched based on information received from the State Tax Service about alleged illegal actions by one of its officials.
Investigative and operational-search measures uncovered reasonable suspicion that Rufat Aliyev, a state tax inspector in the Operational Tax Control Measures Department of the Operational Tax Control Directorate at the service’s Territorial Taxes Main Department No. 12, took a bribe in September 2026 from a business owner operating in Ganja. The alleged payment was in exchange for imposing a lower financial penalty during a tax inspection.
Based on the evidence gathered, Aliyev was charged under Article 311.2 of the Criminal Code with accepting a bribe for illegal actions or inaction by an official. A court ordered pretrial detention following a motion by the investigative body and a submission by the prosecutor overseeing the preliminary investigation.
