Mayon Volcano in the Philippines spewed a large ash cloud on Tuesday, raising concerns about further volcanic activity in Albay province, according to Anadolu Agency.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded 13 volcanic earthquakes and one rockfall signal in the previous 24 hours, its latest bulletin said.

PHIVOLCS also reported minor Strombolian activity, involving intermittent explosions that eject lava fragments and gases. A plume rose 100 metres (328 feet) above the crater and drifted southwest.

Sulfur dioxide emissions reached 1,751 tons per day on Monday.

Mayon remains under Alert Level 3. Entry is prohibited within its 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) permanent danger zone, and aircraft have been warned against flying nearby. Authorities cautioned residents about possible ashfall, lava flows and rockfalls.

On Friday, PHIVOLCS raised the alert to Level 3 after a moderately explosive eruption sent a dense ash plume 3,000 metres (9,842 feet) above the summit, prompting evacuation warnings for nearby communities.

Mayon is in Albay province, in the Bicol region of southern Luzon, and is among the Philippines’ most active volcanoes.
