Sudan’s army said Tuesday that its air defenses had shot down a “hostile” drone that entered the country from neighboring Ethiopia, according to Anadolu Agency.

The military said in a statement that the drone was intercepted over Blue Nile state in southeastern Sudan after crossing the border. It did not identify who operated the drone or give details about its origin, intended target or the circumstances of the interception.

Ethiopian authorities had not immediately commented on the Sudanese military’s statement.

Sudan has been engulfed in a conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023. The fighting has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions of people.

Blue Nile state, which borders Ethiopia and South Sudan, has experienced fighting and insecurity during the ongoing conflict.

The war has also heightened tensions along Sudan’s borders. The Sudanese military has repeatedly accused external actors of supporting the RSF, allegations some countries have denied.
