Switzerland intends to expand strategic cooperation with Ankara in renewable energy and clean technologies ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which Türkiye will host.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Swiss Ambassador to Ankara Guillaume Bertrand Scheurer made the statement.
Ambassador Scheurer said combining Türkiye’s extensive experience in solar and wind energy with Switzerland’s innovative solutions and clean technology capabilities would benefit both countries. He said Switzerland could support Ankara in the energy transition, modernization of energy grids, energy storage systems and smart technologies. At the same time, Bern is interested in benefiting from Türkiye’s experience in implementing large-scale renewable energy projects.
In addition, Türkiye’s potential in manufacturing electrical equipment, batteries and green energy components offers important opportunities for Swiss companies to diversify their supply chains.
The diplomat said Switzerland would be represented at a high level at COP31. The delegation will be led by Switzerland’s Minister for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications Albert Rösti and Swiss Ambassador for the Environment Felix Wertli. Representatives of the private sector and civil society will also take part in the talks.
Scheurer stressed the importance of increasing joint initiatives, pilot projects and technological partnerships between research centers and private companies in the two countries. The COP31 platform is expected to strengthen dialogue between governments and investors.
COP conferences bring countries together to assess progress on climate commitments and negotiate further international action on emissions reduction, adaptation and climate finance. Hosting COP31 will provide Türkiye with an opportunity to highlight its renewable energy capacity and expand partnerships in clean technology.
