People’s Artist Shafika Mammadova has been elected chair of the Azerbaijan Filmmakers Union.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the decision was adopted through a vote at the union’s conference held today.
The former chair of the Azerbaijan Filmmakers Union was People’s Artist Rasim Balayev, who died in March this year.
Shafika Hashim gizi Mammadova was born in Derbent in 1945. She is an Azerbaijani theater and film actress and was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1982. She is also a laureate of the USSR State Prize, awarded in 1981, and the Azerbaijan SSR State Prize, awarded in 1980. Mammadova appeared in such feature films as “Garaca Girl” (the girl), “Dada Gorgud” (Burla Khatun), “The Investigation” (Gulya), “Our Jabiş Teacher” (Jabiş’s wife), “Birthday” (Farida) and “In the Footsteps of the Caravan Drivers” (Sariya). By an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on March 29, 2025, Shafika Mammadova was awarded the “Independence” Order for her outstanding services to the development of Azerbaijani culture.
