Russian President Vladimir Putin held bilateral talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in the Avaza National Tourist Zone near Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Russian leader said the escalating military and political situation in the Middle East and security issues were the main items on the talks’ agenda.
Putin said Iran was making serious and substantive diplomatic efforts to end a conflict it had not instigated, and was putting forward constructive initiatives to resolve the crisis peacefully.
“Russia is ready to take all necessary steps within its capabilities to help regulate the current situation in the Middle East and overcome the crisis. At the same time, relations between Russia and Iran, which are strategic in nature, are developing dynamically and positively in all areas,” Vladimir Putin said.
For his part, Masoud Pezeshkian said bilateral dialogue between Moscow and Tehran was at a high level and underscored the importance of cooperation in establishing regional peace.
