The Ligue 1 eighth-round match between PSG and Lyon, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, may be postponed because of tensions in Paris. RMC Sport reported that city authorities are considering moving the fixture for security reasons.
The Paris Police Prefecture has asked the French Professional Football League (LFP) to reschedule the match. The request comes as law enforcement agencies are expected to increase their presence amid new mass demonstrations anticipated over the coming weekend.
Possible new date for the match
On October 25, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints are also scheduled to meet at the Stade de France as part of the NFL regular season. That game will also require significant security measures.
According to French media reports, PSG and Lyon could play on Monday, October 26. The Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled to take place in London that day. A postponement could prevent some PSG players from attending the event.
Earlier, protests in France also led to changes in the dates of Ligue 1’s Toulouse-Troyes match and Ligue 2’s Montpellier-Red Star match.
