President Ilham Aliyev receives credentials of new Irish ambassador

President Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Claire Brosnan, on July 17.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev held a discussion with the ambassador, emphasizing the importance of expanding relations between the two nations. The President highlighted opportunities to strengthen cooperation beyond the political sphere, specifically focusing on investments and other potential areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Brosnan expressed her honor in being in Baku, noting that the capital's blend of historical traditions and modernity has left a strong impression on her. She praised Azerbaijan as a beautiful country and congratulated the head of state on the progress achieved regarding the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The ambassador noted that Ireland is currently fulfilling its presidency of the European Union and expressed support for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU. She also mentioned that Ireland will host the next summit of the European Political Community.

Reflecting on COP29, Ambassador Brosnan commended Azerbaijan for successfully hosting the event, noting its high level of organization and the positive outcomes achieved. In response, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the various initiatives Azerbaijan has put forward regarding the global green agenda within the framework of COP29 and discussed the ongoing efforts in the country in this direction.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on potential cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ireland in the fields of education and high technologies.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Ireland have steadily developed since their establishment, with both nations seeking to deepen ties in economic, cultural, and educational sectors. Such high-level meetings serve as a cornerstone for fostering stronger bilateral partnerships and aligning interests on regional and international platforms.
