Pope Leo XIV’s cancer surgery earlier this month was successful, and he does not need further treatment, the Vatican press office said Wednesday, according to CNN.

The final histological reports and molecular biology analyses of tissue removed during the surgery were completed that day, Dr. Luigi Carbone and Prof. Stefano Margaritora said in a bulletin.

The results confirmed that the condition was a pulmonary adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized. A subsequent oncological evaluation found that no further therapy was required.
