Pope Leo XIV’s recovery after lung surgery continued to improve steadily on Friday, with blood tests and a chest X-ray confirming progress in his overall condition, according to Vatican News, the Holy See’s official press outlet.
The tests were carried out on Friday morning, the fourth day of the 70-year-old pope’s hospitalization at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, according to a statement from his doctors.
Respiratory physical therapy sessions continued, the doctors said. They added that the pope was able to manage his usual daily activities entirely independently.
Leo underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove the lower lobe of his right lung after doctors identified a cancerous growth.
