Real Madrid has called for La Liga president and RFEF vice-president Javier Tebas to resign from his posts immediately. The club said the demand followed Tebas comparing the work of Real Madrid’s television channel to the methods of Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister.
Tebas had earlier written on X that the channel’s methods recalled Goebbels’ propaganda techniques: systematic repetition, creating an image of an enemy and shaping facts to fit a particular narrative. He stressed that the comparison was about propaganda methods, not ideology or Real Madrid supporters.
In its statement, Real Madrid said it was “completely unacceptable” for a senior figure in Spanish football to invoke Nazi propaganda in an attempt to discredit the club. The club added that Tebas’ clarification about ideology did not change the offensive nature of his remarks or their incompatibility with an institutional role.
The Madrid club described Tebas’ comments as the latest example of repeated attacks on the club, its president and its media outlets. Real Madrid also said the remarks were being used to challenge the club’s and its television channel’s legal actions related to the Negreira case.
The club called for a comprehensive reform of Spain’s refereeing system, as well as its football federation’s governance, oversight and disciplinary structures. Its statement said Tebas’ conduct was incompatible with the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
