Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has commented on Michael Olise’s red card in the team’s match against Viking on matchday two of the Champions League league phase. The game in Norway ended in a 3-3 draw.

“He knows he made a mistake. He seems to regret what happened and putting the team in a difficult position. That’s normal; these things happen. This was not a final or a semifinal, but incidents like this can have a decisive impact on the course of a season,” Kompany told Bild.

The coach said he had told Olise that his opponent had got the better of him: “When you are much stronger than your opponent, sometimes you just need to do your job and focus on beating him instead of getting involved in unnecessary situations. We can’t change anything now. I hope that in the future we can look back on this incident and say we learned from it.”

Olise was shown a yellow card in the 73rd minute for a foul on an opponent. He was later shown a second yellow card and sent off for throwing the ball at an opposing player’s face. He will miss the match against Arsenal.
