Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has expressed doubts over Manuel Neuer’s availability for the team’s Champions League league-phase match against Viking in the second round. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 p.m. Baku time on October 13.
Kompany said Neuer had felt discomfort after the match against Augsburg. The goalkeeper did not train yesterday or today. The coach said it was still unclear whether Neuer would be fit to play, but that his chances of starting were very low.
The Bayern coach said Neuer’s condition had not improved, though he did not want to describe it as an injury. Kompany stressed that the club would not risk the goalkeeper’s health if he was not fully fit. A decision will be made based on his condition before the match.
Neuer made an error in the opening seconds of Bayern’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Augsburg. The incident led to what was the earliest goal in the history of the German championship.
