Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said a local “silence regime” and humanitarian ceasefire mechanism in the settlement of Aleshki (Oleshky), in the Kherson direction, could set a precedent for other areas of the conflict zone.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and an army general, announced that a ceasefire would take effect on the Kherson front at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27, 2026, to allow a humanitarian operation.
Responding to journalists’ questions about whether the ceasefire mechanism in Aleshki could serve as a model for other front lines in the conflict zone, the Kremlin representative praised Washington’s diplomatic support:
“Such mechanisms can, of course, be used for humanitarian purposes. In particular, the direct, highly positive and coordinating involvement of the United States negotiating team and U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in this process should be taken into account. The Russian side highly values these constructive diplomatic efforts and does not rule out that such steps could set a precedent for the future,” Peskov said.
The White House has officially confirmed that First Lady Melania Trump played a direct mediating role in securing the ceasefire agreement in Aleshki to evacuate civilians and deliver humanitarian aid.
Russia launched a large-scale military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian leadership has said the operation’s main goals are to protect civilians in Donbas, disarm Ukraine and ensure its neutral status. Western countries and their allies responded by imposing sweeping economic and political sanctions on Russia.
