The United States can influence Ukraine but disagrees with the European Union on the issue.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Russian presidential aide and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev made the remarks.
Patrushev said that although the United States could influence Ukraine, such influence was not limited to Washington.
“The Americans can exert influence, but they are not the only ones doing so. The Europeans are exerting influence in a different direction, and there is a contradiction between them,” Patrushev said.
According to him, Europe is not interested in achieving peace in Ukraine.
It was earlier reported that US presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv on September 5-6.
The meeting between the US representatives and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin lasted more than three hours, according to reports.
Yuri Ushakov, the Russian presidential aide for international affairs, previously said that the meeting discussed options for resuming trilateral contacts on Ukraine.
The comments come amid continuing diplomatic efforts over the Ukraine conflict, with Washington, Moscow and European capitals pursuing differing approaches to possible negotiations and a future peace settlement.
