Pashinyan warns of potential collapse of Eurasian Economic Union

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed significant concern regarding the future of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), warning that failure to lift current export restrictions could jeopardize the bloc's stability.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Pashinyan stated that the restrictions imposed by Russia on various Armenian goods—including fish, flowers, and agricultural produce—require urgent resolution to avoid severe consequences for the EAEU.

The Armenian leader argued that these trade barriers are not merely a bilateral issue but negatively impact the operational integrity of the entire union. During a recent telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pashinyan emphasized that these measures contradict existing agreements and EAEU regulations.

The EAEU, established in 2015, is an economic union of post-Soviet states aimed at facilitating the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor. Tensions have recently escalated as Armenia explores closer ties with the European Union, a move that has drawn warnings from Moscow regarding Armenia's continued membership in the EAEU. Despite these political shifts, Armenia remains heavily dependent on Russia for energy and trade, creating a complex geopolitical balancing act for the Yerevan government.
