Several districts on Thailand’s Phuket Island affected by flooding have been declared disaster zones.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” said foreign media reported the decision.
Authorities have ordered residents in some areas of the island to evacuate to safer locations.
Heavy rain caused flooding and landslides in Mueang district, which has been declared a disaster zone. The disaster caused significant damage in the area.
Karon and Patong, popular with tourists, are among the areas on the island hardest hit by flooding.
Areas designated as disaster zones will be prioritized for financial compensation and assistance from Thailand’s Ministry of the Interior.
