Azerbaijani border guards have successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle more than 35 kilograms of narcotics and thousands of psychotropic pills from Iran into Azerbaijan.

The State Border Service told the Operative Information Center-OMM that the seizure took place within the service area of the "Goytepe" border detachment of the Border Troops Command. During comprehensive border search and operational-military operations, border guards intercepted and seized 35 kilograms and 200 grams of marijuana, alongside 3,000 psychotropic Methadone M-40 pills. Operational and investigative measures into the incident are currently ongoing.

Azerbaijan's southern border with Iran remains a critical zone for anti-smuggling operations, with the State Border Service regularly intercepting illegal drug shipments. The country has significantly strengthened its border security infrastructure and surveillance systems in recent years to combat transnational drug trafficking and secure its state borders.
