Neftchi sets 21st-century scoring record in first 10 league games

Misli Premier League leaders Neftchi scored 25 goals in their first 10 league matches, setting a club record for the 21st century. The Baku side last came close to that mark in 2000.

The club scored 28 goals at the same stage of the 2000/01 season. This season’s 25 goals are therefore Neftchi’s best return in its first 10 league games in the past 25 seasons.

In none of the previous 24 campaigns had the Baku club averaged 2.50 goals per match across its first 10 league games. Its 25 goals in the first 10 matches this season meet that mark.

Neftchi also holds the record for the most goals in the first 10 matches in the history of the championship, which has been held since 1992. The team scored 42 goals in 10 games at the start of the 1996/97 season.
