A complex operation and customs control measures by officers of the Astara Customs Department of the State Customs Committee thwarted an attempt to transport a particularly large quantity of narcotics through Azerbaijan in transit.
During an inspection at the “South-Astara” customs post, a vehicle carrying a load of “fresh lettuce” from Iran to Russia was checked using a stationary X-ray scanner and a customs service dog, the committee said, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.
The dog reacted to one of the pallets in the vehicle’s trailer.
An inspection of the pallet uncovered a particularly large quantity of narcotics: 90 packages concealed under lettuce, containing a total net weight of 97 kilograms and 685 grams of marijuana.
