Lavrov comments on Poland’s plan to produce Patriot missiles for Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has commented on Poland’s proposal to build a plant on its territory to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing RIA Novosti.

Commenting on Warsaw’s move, Lavrov referred to Russia’s updated military doctrine.

“We have a doctrine on this issue — our military doctrine, which the president has repeatedly referred to. I urge you to carefully study the relevant section of this important document,” the Russian foreign minister said.

Earlier, Polish Defense Ministry official Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said her country was ready to host a facility that would produce Patriot missiles for Ukraine.

According to the Polish side, building such a plant directly in Ukraine would make it an exposed target for Russian strikes. Locating it in Poland, a NATO and European Union member, would ensure that production takes place in a “safe zone.” The project depends on Kyiv obtaining the relevant production license from the United States.

Patriot is a US-made surface-to-air missile system used by several countries for air defense. Any decision to establish production connected with the system would involve security, licensing and coordination issues among the countries concerned.
