Kozo Tashima, honorary president of the Japan Football Association (JFA), has announced his decision to run for president of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). British journalist and football insider Ben Jacobs reported the news on social media.
Tashima said he would contest the election with the full support of the Japan Football Association. He said he aimed to reform the principles governing world football.
“I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to make this announcement with the full support of the Japan Football Association. This is not about winning or losing. The main goal is to speak openly to the world about the integrity, transparency and principles that Japanese football has built over many years.
I believe FIFA needs these core values now. I have made the firm decision to run for the FIFA presidency to convey this message to the entire world,” Tashima said.
