Xocalı sakini Ağdərədə minaya düşdü

A resident of the Khojaly district was injured in a landmine explosion in the Syrkhavand village of the Aghdara district on Wednesday.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the incident was confirmed in a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA). Vugar Salah oglu Ahmadov, born in 1967 and a resident of Yenibina village in the Khojaly district, sustained a left leg injury after stepping on an anti-personnel mine in an uncleared area along the former line of contact. The Tartar District Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into the incident.

In the joint statement, the authorities issued a stern warning to the public regarding the ongoing danger in liberated territories. "ANAMA, the MIA, and the Prosecutor General's Office once again call on citizens to follow safety rules, pay close attention to mine hazard signs, avoid entering unfamiliar areas, and refrain from interfering with fenced-off zones," the release emphasized.

Azerbaijan is currently grappling with a massive landmine problem in its liberated territories following decades of occupation. Since the end of the 44-day war in 2020, hundreds of Azerbaijani citizens, including both civilians and military personnel, have become victims of mine explosions. The government of Azerbaijan continues to conduct extensive demining operations, primarily through ANAMA, to clear the Garabagh and East Zangazur regions to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons to their homes.
