Türkiye aims to raise bilateral trade with Kazakhstan to $15 billion and expand investment cooperation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the statement during talks in Ankara with his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who was on an official visit.
Türkiye is one of Kazakhstan’s five largest trading partners and one of its 10 leading investors, AnewZ reported. According to Kazakhstan’s foreign minister, trade between the two countries reached $5.66 billion in the first eight months of 2026, up 66.5% from the same period last year.
Turkish investment in Kazakhstan has exceeded $6 billion. The funds support projects in manufacturing, construction, logistics and agriculture.
Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to support Turkish companies and create favorable conditions for new projects.
Expanding transport links
A significant part of the economic potential lies in transport links connecting Central Asia with Europe.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, runs across the Caspian Sea and through the South Caucasus, providing an alternative route for freight between the two continents. Cargo volumes along the corridor have increased fivefold over the past seven years.
Kazakhstan wants Türkiye to participate in projects to expand cargo-handling capacity at the Caspian ports of Aktau and Kuryk, key gateways on the route.
The countries are also interested in transporting Kazakh oil to global markets. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which runs through Türkiye to the Mediterranean, gives Kazakhstan an export route beyond its traditional supply channels.
Cooperation on industrial projects
During Erdogan’s state visit to Kazakhstan in May 2026, the sides signed agreements covering the oil and gas sector, the development of Almaty International Airport, and the creation of a joint venture to manufacture and maintain Türkiye’s ANKA unmanned aerial vehicles.
Cooperation in artificial intelligence, agriculture and defense was also among the issues discussed during the talks in Ankara.
The talks took place ahead of the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States, scheduled to be held in Ankara. Both presidents were expected to attend the summit.
Erdogan also invited Tokayev to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place in Antalya on Nov. 11-12.
