Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf met Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei to discuss the latest military, economic and information warfare developments involving the US and Israel, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

The talks focused on strengthening Iran’s national capabilities, preserving social cohesion and national unity, and improving cooperation between the government and parliament to address economic and livelihood challenges.

The two also stressed the importance of advancing relations with Iran’s strategic partners, according to Fars.

Qalibaf briefed Khamenei on parliamentary activities since the US-Israeli war against Iran began on Feb. 28, and outlined current and planned measures to address the country’s challenges.

The meeting was another rare reported encounter involving Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in March.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian previously said he had met Khamenei twice since he took office in March. One of those meetings, held in August, lasted more than seven hours.

Khamenei was selected as Iran’s supreme leader on March 8, after his father was killed in US-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28.

Since taking office, Khamenei has communicated mainly through written statements. His absence from public view has fueled speculation about his condition and role in the country’s decision-making.

The latest meeting comes amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington over security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and their wider conflict.
