The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has issued an official statement concerning two oil tankers that attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that foreign media outlets reported the incident.

According to the statement, one tanker was detained east of the strait and the other in its western part as they attempted to travel along a route without Tehran’s authorization.

Iranian officials alleged that the vessels, with support from the U.S. military, tried to use an unauthorized southern route while switching off their navigation systems. A fire reportedly broke out aboard the vessels after they ignored warnings. The IRGC said the fire resulted from failure to comply with maritime rules set by Iran.

Similar explosions and fires have periodically been reported recently aboard several foreign vessels attempting to pass through the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
