President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of condolences to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, following the passing of the country's Supreme Leader.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the message expresses profound grief over the news of the tragic death of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

"Dear Mr. President, we were deeply saddened by the news of the tragic passing of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. On the occasion of this heavy loss, I express my deepest condolences to you, the family of the deceased, and the friendly people of Iran, and I wish you patience and fortitude," the letter states.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei played a significant role in the life of the Iranian state and society for many years, holding a special place in the country's political and religious history. The President noted that his passing is a great loss for Iran. "On this difficult day, we wish the friendly and brotherly people of Iran peace, stability, and tranquility. May he rest in peace," the message concludes.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have historically been shaped by shared religious, cultural, and geographical ties. As neighboring states, the two countries maintain official communication on regional security, economic cooperation, and transport corridors. Official condolences between the heads of state are a standard protocol in the bilateral relations between Baku and Tehran, reflecting the neighborly status and formal diplomatic engagement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
