Armenia should exist within its internationally recognized borders, rather than on the basis of certain historical interpretations that do not reflect reality.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Presidential Administration’s Foreign Policy Affairs Department, made the remarks at a special session titled “The language of peace and combating disinformation,” held as part of the “Baku Culture and Media Dialogue Platform.”

Hajiyev stressed that Baku and Yerevan had agreed on a peace agenda. However, he said, recent narratives voiced by the Armenian side showed that the two sides may have differing views.

“We remain concerned about manifestations of revanchism in Armenian society. At the same time, we see that Armenia’s current leadership is promoting the concept of ‘Real Armenia.’ We take this into account and believe that Armenia should exist within its internationally recognized borders, rather than on the basis of certain historical interpretations that do not reflect reality,” he said.

Hajiyev said Azerbaijan expects people in Armenian society to be found who will apologize to the Azerbaijani people.

“Initial agreements on peace have already been reached. But I am certain that every Azerbaijani, especially those who were driven from their homes, spent 30 years living as refugees or internally displaced persons, and were subjected to ethnic cleansing, expects an apology from Armenia. This should undoubtedly be part of the broader process of building trust and peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said.
